"Expansion of black bear populations into agricultural regions of Wisconsin"

In an effort to better understand black bear dispersal patterns, particularly in a patchy, heterogeneous landscape such as the Central Forest-Agriculture interface, we are tracking the dispersal of yearling bears using GPS collars.  An improved understanding of how habitat availability and environmental cues shape dispersal and emigration can have predictive implications for determining the future expansion of black bears, as well as the corresponding population growth, and potential increases in bear conflicts with humans.
